Results Achieved in the IP Field were Assessed Positively at the Meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade Configuration

Ms. Manana Pruidze, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, participated in the 9th meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade Configuration, which took place in the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium on December 13 and 14, 2022. One of the issues of the Committee agenda was related to the progress of implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) Agreement in the field of intellectual property.
The Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti presented to the Committee members a report on the legislative and institutional reforms carried out in Georgia in the direction of intellectual property rights. The participants of the Committee meeting also discussed in detail the steps taken to improve enforcement of intellectual property rights, including border measures, and results of the projects implemented with the technical assistance of the European Union. The parties also considered the results of the 6th session of the EU-Georgia Geographical Indications Subcommittee 2022. The representatives of the European Commission assessed positively the steps taken by Georgia for approximation of the intellectual property system to the European Union and highlighted the active role of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti in the achieved progress.
The annual meeting held in Belgium was attended by representatives of government agencies involved in the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) Agreement and relevant directorates of the European Commission. The meeting on the current processes in trade policy was chaired by Mr. Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Mr. Ignacio Iruarrizaga Díez, Head of Unit of Europe and Eastern Neighbourhood (TRADE.E.1), Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission.
