Sakpatenti trademark and design databases were integrated into the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) databases - TMview and Designview. From today, July 7, foreign users can receive information on marks/designs registered in Georgia on the European Union Intellectual Property Office website. In addition, users will be able to search in EUIPO databases by means of the Georgian interface. Sakpatenti has also joined the TMclass platform, which allows searching and translating the list of goods and services in 42 languages.
The launch of the program was officially announced today during the meeting of Mr. António Campinos, Executive Director of EUIPO, with representatives of the business sector, held at Sakpatenti Office. Mr. António Campinos is visiting Georgia on the invitation of Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
Cooperation between EUIPO and National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti is a result of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015. Along with integration of databases, the Memorandum also provides for capacity building of Georgian examiners, assistance in developing the trademark and design guidelines and cooperation with the Intellectual Property Educational Center founded by Sakpatenti.
Cooperation with EUIPO, the Agency responsible for registering trademarks and designs on the territory of the European Union by means of a single application, will facilitate further development of the intellectual property system in Georgia and better fulfillment of obligations under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (DCFTA).
