At
the 15th session of the Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE) of
the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva, Swiss
Confederation, Mr. Irakli Kasradze, Acting Head of the Legal Department of the
National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, was elected as the Chair
of the Committee for the period of one year.
H.E. Kelly C. Degnan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Georgia, visited the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti and held a working meeting with the Center top management.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in remote mode between the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Central Inspectorate Department for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Repression of Agri-food Products of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies of the Italian Republic (ICQRF). The document, which was signed by Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, and Mr. Felice Assenza, Chief of ICQRF, considers to intensify cooperation and exchange information and experience between the offices in the field of geographical indications.
The workshop on “Adjudication of Civil Intellectual Property Infringement Cases”, held in Batumi, co-organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), Sakpatenti and the High School of Justice, is aimed at sharing experience of the United States of America in the direction of intellectual property protection.
On July 28, 2022, within the IPR week program, the Trans-Caspian IP Forum was held, attended by representatives of the Intellectual Property Offices and Customs Departments of Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. The meeting is organized with the support of the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).
The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti is hosting in Georgia representatives of the Intellectual Property Offices and Customs Departments of Armenia, and Moldova. Today, on July 27, 2022, the regional Expert Level Working Group on IPR took place to outline plans for coordinated work against counterfeiting. The event was held with the support of the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).
To strengthen public-private sector dialogue concerning the fight against counterfeiting and piracy, today, the 6th International Conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” was opened. The aim of the conference held in Batumi is to ensure effective interagency coordination regarding mechanisms of intellectual property rights enforcement by sharing international experience. The conference is co-organized by Sakpatenti and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).
Within the working visit to Geneva for participation in the 63rd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the delegation of Georgia held a meeting with Mr. Daren Tang, WIPO Director General, at the headquarters of WIPO. At the meeting the longstanding, close cooperation between WIPO and Sakpatenti was emphasized, which was not hampered even in the conditions of the two-year pandemic crisis. Moreover, with WIPO support, through use of its tools and digitalization of databases, it became possible to offer services to users without interruption both in distance and hybrid mode.
The delegation of Georgia, visiting Geneva for participation in the 63rd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held meetings with senior managers of WIPO and representatives of various Intellectual Property Offices. The Georgian delegation headed by Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti Ms. Nino Chikovani, held bilateral negotiations with the heads of the IP Offices of Turkey, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Moldova. Meetings also took place with the representatives of the WIPO Academy and officials of human resources management department of the organization, besides meetings were held with the Head of WIPO Division for Transition and Developed Countries (TDC) and the management of WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
