Today, Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, delivered a statement at the opening of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Deputy Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti Ms. Nino Chikovani held an introductory meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Sanan Tapdigov.
Within the 8th Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the issue of signing an Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Geographical Indications between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan was considered.
A new Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
To encourage the innovative capabilities of the younger generation, new nomination of “Young Inventors Prize” has been established in addition to the EPO annual competition “European Inventor Award”. This prize is aimed at young inventors who work on technological solutions development that will help to reach the Sustainable Development Goals of UN.
National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia-Sakpatenti joined the WIPO administrated electronic system DAS (Digital Access Service) that allows the participating intellectual property offices to exchange priority documents under the Paris Convention securely and in an electronic environment.

Outstanding graduates of the spring session of the General Course on
Intellectual Property (DL101GE) were awarded with certificates. By the
initiative of Sakpatenti, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
will finance specialized courses for all of the 12 graduates by taking into
consideration their interests.
It has become known to the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, with the assistance of the Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of Estonia, that a fact of unlawful use of the Georgian protected geographical indication of cheese “Sulguni” took place on the territory of Estonia. After implementation of relevant measures, the infringing goods marked with the appellation “Suluguni” was removed from the network of supermarkets “SELVER”.
It will be possible to conduct tests for protection criteria (distinctness, uniformity and stability) (DUS) of new varieties of plants in Georgia in the nearest future. The legal and technical measures required to determine the office authorized to conduct the test were considered during a round table meeting.
Representatives of Sakpatenti, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Scientific-Research Centre of Agriculture and the Georgian Seeds and Saplings Association participated in the event held in the online format.
The National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti takes care to ensure the safe working environment. To date, 64% of the staff members are vaccinated with at least the first dose of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
