The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is hosting in Geneva representatives of 193 countries, including the delegation of Georgia, for participation in the 63rd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO. The delegation of Georgia is headed by Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti.
The Summer School of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) on the topic
“Intellectual Property Law” was held in Georgia for the seventh time this year.
14 students of the Faculties of Law of the leading universities of ten European
countries participated in the Summer School. Today, on July 15, 2022, the
participants of ELSA 2022 were hosted at Sakpatenti on occasion of successful
completion of the Summer School. Ms. Ana Dalakishvili, Head of Sakpatenti
Training Center, congratulated the students on graduating from the Summer
School and handed over to them certificates of completion in solemn ceremony
Merab Kutsia, Head of Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti is the first Georgian who passed the European qualifying examination (EQE) and received the designation of European patent attorney.
Within the EU Georgia Intellectual
Property Project (EUGIPP), Mr. Kenneth Wright, expert involved in one of the
components of the project “Comparative study of the EU and Georgian
legislations and practices on IPR enforcement”, is visiting Georgia. The
objective of his visit is to get acquainted with the specificity of work of the
intellectual
property rights enforcement authorities and share European experience with the
Georgian counterparts. Within the visit, on July 12, 2022, a bilateral meeting
was held between the expert and Sakpatenti managements at Sakpatenti Head
Office.
The 4th edition of the Intellectual Property Case Law Conference was opened on July 7, 2022, in Alicante, Spain. Objective of the event is to consider intellectual property judicial practice, global challenges and development perspectives in the legislation. The event, organized by the Boards of Appeal and the Academy of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), is attended by the delegation of Georgia, headed by Mr. Beka Dotchviri, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti.
Experts on geographical indications from various countries of the world are gathered in Montpelier. On July 5, 2022, the International Conference “Worldwide Perspectives on Geographical Indications” was opened in France, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD). The meeting is attended by the Georgian delegation, a member of which is Mr. Irakli Kasradze, Acting Head of the Legal Department of Sakpatenti.
To get acquainted with the peculiarities of the geographical indications system, a Georgian delegation is visiting Bern on the invitation of IPI, which is a significant member of the geographical indications system of the Swiss Confederation. Mr. Irakli Kasradze, Acting Head of the Legal Department of Sakpatenti, is a member of the delegation.
“Creativity and IP in Georgian
Schools” is a component
of the EU - Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). It will
be repeated and implemented extensively this year. In addition to existing 4 schools engaged in the project, 21 schools from
the regions of Georgia will join the project in 2022-2023. Within the training
activity, aimed to support integration of creativity and intellectual property
issues into the basic education system, Sakpatenti tutors will train 100
teachers. The IP education syllabus
includes practical teaching methodology. The knowledge received at the trainings, will
allow teachers to deliver IP lesson at schools. Its main objective is to stimulate
creativity and innovation in pupils. 1000 pupils will be involved in the
above-mentioned project.
IP rights protection and commercialization, ways of identifying intangible assets are the main topics discussed at the follow-up training course delivered for Sakpatenti staff. Today, on June 30, 2022, a training activity was launched within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property (EUGIPP) Project, which is aimed to train Sakpatenti officials on performing IP pre-diagnostic services for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. The training is delivered by international IP expert Ms. Alison Orr.
To get acquainted with the progress of the international cooperation
project for the support of the intellectual property system “EU Georgia Intellectual
Property Project (EUGIPP)”, Project Leader Mr. Martin Marianov and Project
Coordinator Mr. Andrea Iori visited Sakpatenti. The objective of the visit is
to discuss the progress of the project components, and to participate in the event
to be held in Tbilisi within the project. The visitors familiarized with the activities
of the Department of
Trademarks, Geographical Indications and Design, Legal Department and the
Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti
