Today, the Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the European Patent Organisation (EPO) on Validation of European Patents (Validation Agreement) was signed in Munich by Mr. António Campinos, President of EPO, and Mr. Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Once in force, the Agreement will allow to validate European patents on the territory of Georgia, based on a single European patent application. It will simplify the procedure of patenting inventions for international applicants in Georgia.
On October 21, 2019, a Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement was signed between Georgia and Great Britain in London, capital of United Kingdom.
Today, on October 17, 2019, the Employment and Internship Forum was held at hotel Sheraton Metechi Palace, organized by San Diego State University (SDSU-Georgia). National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti participated at the event for the fifth time, together with various private and public organizations.
Today, on October 12, 2019, the Wine Festival was held for the third time, in Gurjaani, in Akhtala Park. The event aim is to facilitate wine tourism, introduce wine culture and Georgian traditions to foreign as well as to the Georgian public. At the festival, wines made by farmers in qvevri (clay jar), more than 150 wines of various types, colours and age, chacha and other spirits, produced by great and small wineries, were exhibited together with traditional meals.
Today, on October 11, 2019, the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti organized a meeting for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and enterprises on geographical indications, invention and innovations.
Today, on October 9, 2019, the Fifty-Ninth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ended in Geneva, Switzerland, which was attended by the delegation of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, headed by its Chairman Mr. Genadi Lebanidze.
Today, on October 2, 2019, at the office of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, a meeting took place between the heads of various structural units of Sakpatenti and the US Congress staffers, visiting Georgia. The parties discussed progress achieved as a result of mutual cooperation and outlined plans for the future.
National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti has joined DesignClass, the tool of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which allows using the list of terms from the harmonized databases of product indications (HDBPI). Users will be able to search and translate harmonized product indications into 27 languages, including Georgian, from 30 intellectual property offices.
Today, on September 24, 2019, an exhibition and tasting of goods protected by Georgian and foreign geographical indications opened the International Conference on Geographical Indications, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) and OriGIn – the Global Alliance of Geographical Indications.

Two hundred delegates from 30 countries gathered today in Tbilisi for oriGIn 2019 Biannual Meeting. “We are glad to see once again the participation and enthusiasm of our members, whom did not miss the opportunity to review the work carried out over the last biennium and plan oriGIn future activities. This confirms that oriGIn is a crucial actor of the Geographical Indications global debate. On behalf of our members, I would like to thank our partners – the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia (SAKPATENTI) and oriGIn Georgia – which did a tremendous job to organize this 3-day gathering.
