Sub-Regional Symposium on Geographical Indications is Held in Trabzon

On September 12-13, 2017, Sub-Regional Symposium on Geographical Indications is held in Trabzon, Turkey, organized by the World intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia (Sakpatenti) and Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Turkpatent). At the event, issues of legal protection of origin-based products are considered.
During two days, the participants of the Symposium will discuss strategies of development of geographical indications and socio-economic impact of GI protection, will familiarize with the GI protection systems of Turkey and Georgia and will share the experience of the European Union on control of geographical indications and enforcement of GI protection in the EU.
In parallel with the Symposium, an exhibition and tasting of products protected by Georgian and Turkish geographical indications is taking place, where goods of appellations of origin and geographical indications, registered in Turkey and Georgia are shown. Among these are Georgian wines of various appellations, mineral waters, varieties of cheese, chacha, matsoni, churchkhela, Akhalkalaki potato, Kutaisi greens, Tqibuli mountain tea and Machakhela honey. The exhibition will facilitate popularization of Georgian geographical indications and export of Georgian products.
