Negotiations on Mutual Recognition of Geographical Indications Took Place in Bern, Switzerland

On October 25-26, 2017, in Bern, Switzerland the second round of negotiations between the Georgian and the Swiss parties on drafting the text of the “Agreement on the mutual recognition and protection of geographical indications, appellations of origin and indications of source between Georgia and the Swiss Confederation” took place.
At the meeting the parties finalized the text of the Draft Agreement, which, in case of its adoption, will ensure protection of Georgian geographical indications and appellations of origin, according to the principle of reciprocity, on the territory of Switzerland. The Agreement will also be directed at regulation of issues related with the protection and use of geographical indications.
On behalf of Switzerland, representatives of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property participated in the negotiations, and on behalf of Georgia – Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
The first round of the negotiations was held in Georgia, on August 20-21, 2017.
