One-year Coordination of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Central European and Baltic States Regional Group (CEBS) by Georgia was Completed

On December 15, 2017, a summary meeting of activities of the WIPO CEBS Regional Group took place in Geneva, which ended the one-year coordination by Georgia of the above-mentioned Regional Group (uniting 18 states of the region). The functions of the Coordinator were fulfilled by a special representative of Sakpatenti -Mrs. Ana Gobechia, Head of International Affairs and Project Management Division. In 2017 Georgia fulfilled the functions of the Group Coordinator at 14 Committee sessions of WIPO and at the 57th General Assembly of WIPO Members States, drafted, agreed, voiced and defended the positions of the Group. In the capacity of the Group Coordinator, Georgia participated in preparatory meetings of all Committees and carried out coordination activity to agree positions on various issues. This activity covered up to 60 meetings with the members of the CEBS Group, 70 meetings with the WIPO Secretariat and Heads of Committees, 30 informal consultation meetings, 25 meetings with the Acting Chairperson of WIPO General Assembly, up to 70 meetings with countries of the WIPO Developed Countries Group, other Regional Groups and the European Union. In the period of coordination, Georgia made about 150 statements on behalf of CEBS Group. The work carried out by Georgia in the capacity of the Regional Group Coordinator was highly appreciated by the delegations as well as the Secretariat and Director General of the Organization, which has taken the activity of the delegation of Georgia at WIPO to a qualitatively new stage and into an advanced category.
