Joint Seminar of WIPO and Sakpatenti

Today, on February 27, 2018, Seminar “The Effective Use of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks” is organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti. The seminar is attended by patent attorneys of Georgia and representatives of private companies, who are using the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks. The meeting is led by Mr. Marcus Höpperger, representative of WIPO, and Mr. Hubert Doleac, Lawyer of Company “Troller Hitz Troller”, invited speaker of WIPO.
At the seminar, the importance of protecting trademarks and necessity of drafting the branding strategy of companies will be discussed, the basic features and latest developments of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks will be presented. To ensure better use of the Madrid System in the process of searching, filing, monitoring and managing trademarks abroad, WIPO experts will introduce recommendations on managing the Madrid Goods and Services database and issues of electronic services.
The one-day seminar will take place at the conference hall of Hotel Iota.
The Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (Madrid Protocol) is an international tool for extension of trademark protection to foreign countries. On the basis of this Protocol, by means of filing a single application in a single language, an applicant can cover a wide geographical area – 116 member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Georgia is a member of the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks from 1998.
