Second Round of Negotiations on Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications was Held between Georgia and the Republic of Moldova in Sakpatenti

On March 23, 2018, at National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, the second round of negotiations took place between the parties of Georgia and the Republic of Moldova to adopt the text of the Agreement on “Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications between Georgia and the Republic of Moldova”.
Chairman of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and Director General of State Agency on Intellectual Property of Republic of Moldova (AGEPI), as well as representatives of various state agencies of the two countries participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties agreed on the main part of the text of the Agreement, also exchanged views on the latest developments in the field of Geographical Indications in the countries of the parties and outlined future cooperation plans.
The draft Agreement on “Mutual Recognition and Protection of Geographical Indications between Georgia and the Republic of Moldova” provides recognition of geographical indications and appellations of origin by the parties according to the principle of reciprocity, ensuring their protection under the national legislations and regulation of issues related with protection and use of rights on them.
The first round of the negotiations took place on November 14, 2018, in Chisinau, Moldova.
