A fact of successful enforcement of rights on the protected Georgian geographical indication “Churchkhela” took place in the Republic of Latvia

As a result of the activities conducted by the Food and Veterinary Agency of the Republic of Latvia, goods infringing rights on the geographical indication “Churchkhela” were removed from the channels of commerce.
The abovementioned activities were conducted upon the request of the Georgian party at the 3rd Meeting of the EU-Georgia Sub-Committee on Geographical Indications set up according to the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union. During the meeting held on March 14, 2018 the cease and desist of unlawful use and rights enforcement of the Georgian geographical indication “Churchkhela” on the territory of the European Union, namely in the Republic of Latvia, was discussed.
Georgia, with support of the European Union continues to work actively on the detection and cease of infringing activity.
