Georgia has Acceded to the Protocol Amending the TRIPS Agreement

On November 21, 2018, a meeting took place in Geneva between Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Mr. Victor Dolidze, Permanent Representative of Georgia in Geneva, during which the instrument of ratification of the Protocol Amending the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) by Georgia was deposited.
For the purpose of accession of Georgia to the Protocol amending the above-mentioned Agreement, on the initiative of Sakpatenti various activities were carried out. On December 6, 2005, by the unanimous decision of the member states of the World Trade Organization, the Protocol Amending the TRIPS Agreement was adopted, according to which, taking into consideration the necessities of countries with insufficient or no manufacturing capacities , production and export of medicines will become possible as an additional form of compulsory licenses.
