On February 19, 2019, a workshop within the project “Support to Sustainable Value Chains through the Development of Geographical Indications in the Dairy Sector”, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), took place at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.
Based on the best practices of the European Union and France, issues of drafting specifications of geographical indications, identification of the link between the place of origin and the final product, as well as making amendments to specifications were discussed.
The participants of the meeting also focused attention on the role and authority of the Marketing Council, set up to facilitate introducing international branding and marketing practice. The Marketing Council includes representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency and National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.
