David Zalkaliani Met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization

On February 26, 2019, in Geneva, Swiss Confederation, Mr. David Zalkaliani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), discussed the reforms aimed at strengthening intellectual property rights in Georgia and issues of successful cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Mr. David Zalkaliani stressed the priority importance of the intellectual property field and expressed gratitude to the WIPO Director General for his personal involvement in the process of implementation of reforms in Georgia.
It was noted that intellectual property issues are given special importance in the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union and, through the effective work of Sakpatenti on these matters, resulted in active implementation of the Agreement.
Special emphases were given to the successful cooperation with WIPO in terms of implementation of the National Intellectual Property Strategy, protection of geographical indications of Georgia and introducing various innovations in this field.
The meeting with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization took place in Geneva, within the Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
