The National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI has registered seven Georgian appellations of origin: “Vazisubani”, “Napareuli”, “Gurjaani”, “Manavi”, “Teliani”, “Kvareli” and “Kakheti” at the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation (ROSPATENT). Last August, Sakpatenti applied to ROSPATENT requesting granting legal protection to Georgian appellations. The exclusive right on the above-mentioned appellations on the territory of the Russian Federation was granted to the National Wine Agency.
It is noteworthy that in 2016 the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI also registered in the Russian Federation six appellations of origin: “Khvanchkara”, “Tvishi”, “Akhsheni”, “Tsinandali”, “Mukuzani” and “Kindzmarauli”.
Carrying out the above-mentioned measures in different countries including Russian Federation, is highly important for protection of the reputation of well-known appellations of origin and geographical indications of Georgian wines and products, in case of infringement of rights, for obtaining the means of their legal protection.
Sakpatenti will continue to apply necessary measures in order to protect Georgian appellations of origin and geographical indications on the strategic markets.
