Today, on February 11, 2020, Mr. Miguel Angel Domínguez Morales, President of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), paying an official visit to Georgia, was handed over the certificate of registration of “Tequila” as a collective mark at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia SAKPATENTI. The visit of the delegation of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), aimed to popularize Tequila on the Georgian market as well as to facilitate the export of Georgian wine to the Mexican market and to cooperate in this direction, continues for two days.
On the initiative of SAKPATENTI, today, the tasting of Tequila and Georgian wines took place with the participation of several companies: “Rtvelisi”, “Corporation Kindzmarauli”,”Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking”, “Wine Company Shumi” and “Telavi Wine Cellar”, working on wine export.
It is noteworthy that the Mexican delegation is accompanied by representatives of Mexican mass media, who are preparing news about Georgia. The delegation also includes the President of the National Tequila Chamber and officials of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, who already held an official meeting with their Georgian counterparts. Within the visit, the delegation met with Mr. Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Georgia, as well as the management of the National Food Agency and the National Wine Agency. In addition, a meeting was also held with the management of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, during which issues related with the intellectual property rights enforcement were discussed.
Significant to mention that, “Tequila” representatives paid their first visit to Georgia in 2019, during the International Conference on Geographical Indications, organized by Sakpatenti and OriGIn – the Global Alliance of Geographical Indications. Together with “Tequila” representatives, the Conference was also attended by producers of goods protected by well-known geographical indications, such as “Prosecco”, “Bavarian Beer”, “Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese”, “Balsamic Vinegar of Modena”, “Parma Ham”, “Scotch Whiskey”, “Grana Padano”, Cheese “Comte”, etc. As a result of the above-mentioned Conference, during which the exhibition and tasting of Georgian goods also took place, the representatives of “Tequila” expressed great interest in the Georgian market, which is confirmed by the steps taken in the direction of protection of their intellectual property in Georgia and the present visit.
