New Appellation of Origin “Akhoebi”

Sakpatenti issued a certificate of registration for appellation of origin “Akhoebi”. It is a special wine of dark red colour, with excellent, full, extravagant, velvet, harmonious taste and aroma. The application for registration was filed with the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti by N(N)IP Kardenakhi Wine.
The “Akhoebi” micro-zone is located on the administrative territory of village Kardenakhi, Gurjaani district. Grapes to produce this wine shall be harvested from vineyards located in the Akhoebi micro-zone.
The geographical location of the Akhobi micro-zone, the climate characterized with moderately mild winter and hot summer, moderate amount of atmospheric precipitations, brown, carbonate soils, special features of grapes of Saperavi and/or Saperavi Budeshuri-like vine varieties, harvested in the Akhoebi micro-zone, revealed specifically in this micro-zone, and centuries-old local tradition of viticulture and winemaking determines the specific organoleptic characteristics and high reputation of wine “Akhoebi”, as is noted in the specifications.
“Akhobi” is the 33rd appellation of origin registered by the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia – Sakpatenti, among which are “Khvanchkara”, “Kindzmarauli”, “Tvishi”, “Borjomi” and others.
An appellation of origin is the name of a geographical place used to designate the goods the specific quality and features of which are essentially or exclusively due to a particular geographical environment and human factors.
