July 14, 2020
As of July 14, 2020, up to 60 000 terms of goods and services are available in the Georgian language in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), trademark search tool - TMClass.. The above-mentioned will give an opportunity to Georgian and foreign users to search and translate automatically any term related to goods and services into and from 44 languages available, in order to file their trademark applications.
Up to 60 000 terms of goods and services were integrated into TMClass harmonized database (HDB), from which terms are used by the intellectual property offices of the European Union countries, as well as Japan, USA, the People’s Republic of China, South Korea, and so on. Subsequently, it will simplify procedures of trademark protection abroad for Georgian applicants.
Till today it was only possible to search terms in TMClass in the Georgian language fromthe Nice Classification (Trademarks). Translation of the HDB terms into the Georgian language and integrating in TMClass were carried out within the framework of Memorandum of Understanding between Sakpatenti and EUIPO as well as the European Union Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). In order to create a more efficient IPR system in Georgia, the EUGIPP is focused on strengthening current institutions, approximation and harmonization of legislation and practice. The project is implemented through funding of the European Union and with the support of EUIPO.
EUIPO is the Agency which is responsible for managing EU trademarks and designs and assists intellectual property offices of the European Union member states and international partners in harmonizing practices.
