An Introductory Meeting of Mr. Mindia Davitadze and Mrs. Rena Lee Took Place within the WIPO 61st Assembly

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has a new Chief Executive. Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze held the first remote meeting with his counterpart.
During the bilateral meeting, held on October 9, 2020, Mr. Mindia Davitadze expressed a desire to activate further the cooperation between the two offices for intellectual property teaching and raising awareness on the significance and role of intellectual property protection among the private sector representatives.
“Singapore positions itself among the ten most innovative countries in the world, as measured by the Global Innovation Index. Singapore is distinguished for one of the best practices with regard to IP educational activities. The school curriculum guidelines are precisely defined and adjusted to each individual as well as each citizen in Singapore and the official curriculum covers most aspects of IP even at primary level and IP education is highly focused on core civic and moral values. Sharing knowledge and experience of Singapore in the intellectual property field, intellectual property teaching methodology and introducing relevant practice is significant for achieving our goals and objectives”, - Sakpatenti Chairman noted.
Mrs. Rena Lee conveyed readiness on behalf of IPOS regarding planning and implementation of joint activities within the Memorandum of Understanding, which will facilitate the development of the global intellectual property ecosystem.
At the meeting the IPOS Chief Executive expressed a desire to host Sakpatenti Chairman in Singapore in August, 2021, at the international conference scheduled by the office and to share with the Georgian counterpart the effective mechanisms of use of intellectual property for supporting business, developed by IPOS. In addition, Mrs. Rena Lee noted at the meeting that the objective of the IPOS Intellectual Property Training Academy is to develop and support of intellectual property as a profession. IPOS is ready to share with Sakpatenti the Academy programs. The heads of the offices issued the instructions for drafting an action plan for further negotiations around the discussed topics.
IPOS is an office with the mission statement and vision to stimulate Singapore’s development by means of IP knowledge and networks, where innovative enterprises use their intellectual property and intangible assets for growth.
