Seminar on Copyright Management is being Held at Sakpatenti

On March 15-18, 2021, with the involvement of international partners, a seminar is being held to raise awareness on collective management organizations of economic rights of authors in Georgia. Workshop, organized by the Commercial Law Development Program of the U.S. Department of Commerce and with the support of the U.S. Embassy to Georgia, is attended by Sakpatenti staff members, patent attorneys, collective management organizations and other parties interested in this topic.
Representatives of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) are sharing their experience with participants of the workshop. This will help the participants in deepening the knowledge on practices and policy that facilitates successful functioning of collective management in the USA, the European Union and other countries. Acquired knowledge is aimed to strengthen the collective management of economic rights and to restore the trust of consumers and right holders towards it.
At the meeting, the management of rights for performance of musical works, broadcasting, making available to the public and communication to the public are discussed. In addition, it is planned to provide the foreign experts with information on the system existing in Georgia and on the basis of this to receive recommendations for legal and institutional reformation.
Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) was created in 1992 and it is the technical assistance platform of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The CLDP provides technical assistance to governments of countries in transition and private sector entities in the field of commercial law, in order to assist them in achieving economic development objectives. For many years, the CLDP has been assisting both public sector agencies as well as private sector entities of Georgia in strengthening capacity in intellectual property rights protection and enforcement.
