Sakpatenti Works on Conclusion of an Agreement on Cooperation with Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba and Rakuten

Sakpatenti plans to conclude an agreement on cooperation with Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba and Rakuten within the EU funded Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” (GE/16 ENI EC 0318). The above-mentioned issue was discussed during the 7th meeting of the Steering Committee of the Project, held on March 30, 2021.

The project, aimed to assist Georgia in development of the unique marketing tool, the geographical indications system, and in full use of the related benefit, will be completed on August 31, 2021. During the meeting of the Committee, the Action Plan of the subsequent months was signed, which envisages carrying out intensive work in the direction of Internet platforms, as cases of counterfeiting of Georgian geographical indications products on the Internet represent one of the serious challenges. 

Within the Project, the plan of activities is being elaborated, which are aimed at popularization of the GIs system and raising awareness, which envisages creation of videos, tutorials and animated videos. In addition, the plan includes organization of various training and working meetings for staff of the enforcement entities, such as the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Department and the Monitoring Department, which are working on the issues related to rights enforcement. Training will also be delivered to producers, staff of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the National Wine Agency and the National Food Agency on certification and control mechanisms.
