Pupils Creatively Expressed the Knowledge Received at Intellectual Property Lessons – Exhibition at Gori Public School №12
April 27, 2021
On the World Intellectual Property Day, pupils of Gori Public School № 12 presented the results of their intellectual work – work protected by copyright, inventions, design samples and trademarks. The event was the final stage of one of the components of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) - “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”, aimed to facilitate integration of intellectual property into the basic education system.
At the first stage of the project, the trainers of Sakpatenti Training Centre delivered training to selected public schools’ teachers in intellectual property teaching methodology. The next stage was devoted to delivering creativity and intellectual property lessons developed within the training plan. To achieve effectiveness of teaching, teachers of selected schools were provided with various learning materials, based on the content of the teacher training package “Basics of Intellectual Property” of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
“Creative Diary”, specially created for the Project and other learning materials were used during lessons of the native language and civic education. The use of the learning materials facilitated development of creative thinking among pupils, understanding of creativity as a source of obtaining financial and moral benefits, as well as analyzing intellectual work as property and importance of the given field in general. In addition, the pupils realized how to protect their intellectual property and respect intellectual work of others.
Public schools of Tbilisi and regions of Georgia were involved in the pilot version of intellectual property teaching. Raising awareness on intellectual property at schools of Georgia is of principal importance for the development of this area, as stimulating creativity among pupils today is a precondition of advancing science, art, innovation and industry in the country tomorrow. The EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) serves achieving this objective. The Project is ongoing since January 2020 and is jointly implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.
