World Intellectual Property Day was Celebrated at Tbilisi Public School №122
April 29, 2021
Pupils of Tbilisi Public School № 122 creatively expressed the knowledge received at intellectual property lessons and held an exhibition on occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day. During the event pupils presented works protected by copyright, inventions, design samples and trademarks. This was the final stage of one of the components of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) - “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”.
The project was implemented in three stages. The final event was preceded by training of selected public schools’ teachers in intellectual property teaching methodology by trainers of Sakpatenti Training Centre as well as delivering creativity and intellectual property lessons developed within the training plan. Learning materials, specially created for the Project, including the “Creative Diary” were used at the lessons of the native language and civic education. To ensure effectiveness of teaching, teachers of selected schools were provided with various learning materials, based on the content of the teacher training package “Basics of Intellectual Property” of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The works shown at the exhibition held during the final event demonstrated that the use of the learning materials facilitated development of creative thinking among pupils, understanding of creativity as a source of obtaining financial and moral benefits, as well as analyzing intellectual work as a property and importance of the given field in general. In addition, the pupils realized how to protect their intellectual property and respect intellectual work of others.
Event aimed to facilitate integration of intellectual property into the basic education system is the pilot version of teaching intellectual property and public schools of Tbilisi and regions of Georgia were involved in its implementation. The pilot version was developed by Sakpatenti as the main beneficiary of the EUGIPP and by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The three-year EUGIPP Project, aimed to strengthen the intellectual property system in Georgia, will be completed at the end of 2022.
