Market Control of Geographical Indications and Role of Enforcement Offices

Working meeting on the issues of geographical indications rights enforcement and market control is being held for representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance and the Revenue Service. Training aims to facilitate capacity building of enforcement offices to introduce theoretical and practical aspects of investigation, monitoring and inspection measures for geographical indications rights enforcement
The event which is held within the Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” allows creation of administrative and institutional mechanisms through sharing experience and knowledge of leading countries, France and Italy, which will enhance the geographical indications protection and control system in Georgia and will also strengthen the capacity and deepen the knowledge of the national institutions in this field.
The meeting at “Radisson Collection, Hotel Tsinandali Estate” will last three days. During the meeting employees and inspectors of the Central Inspectorate of Quality Protection and Fraud Repression (ICQRF) of Italian Ministry of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies (Mipaaf), the management of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti will deliver presentations, they will discuss mechanisms of improvement of coordination and information exchange between the enforcement offices, as well as modern approaches and effective methods regarding rights enforcement.
The Twinning Project on “Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia” has been implemented for the third year and it aims to facilitate the development of the geographical indications and appellations of origin system in Georgia and its harmonization with the European Union GI protection system. The main beneficiary of the Project is the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti.
