Meeting between Ambassador of France and Sakpatenti Chairman Took Place at Sakpatenti

Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze and Ambassador of France to Georgia Mr. Diego Colas discussed cooperation plans and development of joint projects at the meeting held at Sakpatenti Head Office.

“Sharing experience of France is highly important for the development of the geographical indications system in the country and its approximation with the European standards”, - Mr. Mindia Davitadze noted during his conversation with the Ambassador.

At present the EU-funded Twinning Project is ongoing, the main objective of which is to facilitate the development of the GI system and its harmonization with the European Union standards. The project is implemented in cooperation with the consortium of France and Italy.

“Innovative, modern and stable economy is based on the strong intellectual property system. We are ready to cooperate with our strategic partner - Sakpatenti”, - Mr. Diego Colas stated at the meeting.

One of the main topics of the meeting with the French diplomat was the support of Sakpatenti in establishing bilateral relations with the Office of Literacy and Artistic Property of the Ministry of Culture of France and the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). Planning of joint activities will create an opportunity for sharing the experience of French colleagues, organization of trainings, seminars and study visits. It is noteworthy that cooperation with these offices and implementation of activities focused on the development of the given field will facilitate institutional capacity building of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti.

The issue of conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding was also discussed at the meeting for the purposes of defining the areas and directions of future cooperation. It was also highlighted that it is important to raise awareness on Sakpatenti among the members of the Diplomatic Corps. The present meeting is a precondition of large-scale unfolding the future bilateral relations, to ensure dissemination of more visible and results-oriented information inside the country as well as beyond its borders.

Sakpatenti has an agreement with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) on cooperation in the field of exchange of basic and technical documentation, which means access to various official bulletins and documentation offered to Sakpatenti by INPI.
