On Behalf of the Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) Regional Group, Georgia Addressed the Session of the Standing Committee of the World Intellectual Property Organization

On May 17, 2021, the 44th Session of the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT) was opened, during which the Special Representative of Georgia, Mrs. Ketevan Kiladze addressed the session.
At the meeting, Mrs.Ketevan Kiladze touched upon the issues related to the protection of designs, geographical indications and trademarks and stressed the importance of future activities and addressing the objectives faced by the Committee.
Purpose of the work of the Committee is to develop mechanisms regarding trademarks, designs and geographical indications which will ensure their more efficient protection. To attain this objective it is especially important to approximate positions of WIPO member states and achieve final agreement with respect to the current issues.
Active work is ongoing on questions related to protection of country names and geographical names of national importance and their registration as domain names. The topics to be discussed also include issues of protection of Graphical User Interface (GUI) designs and designs presented at various international exhibitions.
Georgia is participating in the Committee work as the Coordinator of the Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) Regional Group for 2021. The Committee completed its work on May 19, 2021.
