May 31, 2021
Meeting of Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Mindia Davitadze and CEO of the European Business Association Mr. David Lawrence Lee took place at the Head Office of Sakpatenti. The parties discussed future cooperation plans and perspectives. The issue of joint projects development with respect to raising awareness on intellectual property issues in Georgia and capacity building of Sakpatenti staff members was highlighted at the meeting.
European Business Association (EBA) represents an organization in Georgia which is mainly focused on development of regions and small and medium enterprises. Mission of the Association is to advocate for European Businesses in Georgia and to facilitate the development of trade and investment between Georgia and Europe.
At the meeting Sakpatenti Chairman expressed willingness to continue active cooperation with EBA, especially in the field of raising awareness on intellectual property issues for representatives of small and medium enterprises. In response, CEO of EBA promised to support mutual cooperation and to actively engage in interesting initiatives.
Bearing in mind that to the present day very little research is carried out in Georgia in the intellectual property field and scarce information is available on the impact and value of IP in the country economy, it will be important to cooperate with EBA and implement future projects in this regard, both from the viewpoint of raising awareness on IP in general and capacity building at Sakpatenti. This in its turn will facilitate institutional strengthening of Sakpatenti. It is also essential that close cooperation of the Office with the European Business Association (EBA) will be another step forward on the way leading to European integration.
In 2016-2019, within the Project funded by the European Union Program “Horizon 2020”, Sakpatenti cooperated actively with EBA which greatly supported Sakpatenti in establishing relations with small and medium enterprises by means of its high involvement in the project and providing necessary activities for cooperation.
