IP Enforcement Forum is being held in Georgia

The event is organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) within EU funded EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP).
Forum was opened by Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti.
Welcoming statements were delivered by Mr Catalin Gherman - Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Georgia, Mr Ignacio De Medrano - Head of International Cooperation of EUIPO, Mr Zurab Dznelashvili - Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia, Mr Vaja Panozishvili – Deputy Head of Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Mr Zurab Sichinava – Head of Customs Department, Mr Dimitri Pagava – Representative of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and Mr Vakhtang Abashidze – Member of the Communication Commission of Georgia.
Seminars were organized within the event during which recent developments and challenges in the field of intellectual property rights enforcement were discussed. Attention was focused on the global approaches of combating counterfeiting and current challenges with regard to IP rights enforcement in the digital environment.
Forum is aimed at approximation of judicial practice and administrative/legislative procedures related to the intellectual property rights enforcement with the EU standards. It is also important to exchange information between Georgian and European counterparts regarding legislation and monitoring practice of intellectual property rights infringements.
Within the Forum, the exhibition of counterfeit products of well-known trademarks will take place, during which trademark holders and patent attorneys will introduce to the seminar participants the technical features of particular products on the basis of which the product authenticity is ascertained.
The three-day Forum, organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is being continued for three days.
