Technology Transfer in Georgia

Head of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti - Mr. Merab Kutsia participated in the event organized by Georgia’s Innovation & Technology Agency “Technology Transfer in Georgia”.
The event took place within the project “Experts.ai for Georgia”, which is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
At the meeting representatives of Georgia and international organizations summarized the main achievements of the project and the results of the platform (Experts.AI) created within the above-mentioned project.
It is noteworthy that valid patents of Georgian universities and scientific-research institutions were published on the platform with the involvement of Sakpatenti. Challenges in the technology transfer and commercialization process were discussed during the event. These issues were discussed in various directions – from the viewpoint of business and academic circles, involvement of the public sector and intellectual property.
Mr. Merab Kutsia provided participants with information on the Sakpatenti activities and focused attention on the participation of the Office in the technology transfer support process. The latter covers the free service of preliminary patent search, consultations for applicants, as well as support to universities and scientific-research institutions in drafting intellectual property statutes for them.
In his presentation Mr. Merab Kutsia highlighted the problems and obstacles encountered by the scientists in the process of protection of their intellectual property.
Within the event, participants also got familiarized with the successful examples from international practice on technology transfer.
