June 16, 2021
Third day of IP Enforcement Forum in Georgia was devoted to judges and discussion of court cases related to infringements of intellectual property rights.
Forum was organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) within the EU-funded EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP).
Event was opened by Mrs. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, and Mr. Catalin Gherman, Deputy Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Georgia. Roundtable discussion was attended by up to 20 judges from the Chambers of Criminal, Civil and Administrative Cases of Tbilisi City Court.
Within the Forum, European and Georgian judges discussed Georgian court cases related to intellectual property and case-law.
In addition, Georgian judges were informed about the compilation of significant decisions from the courts and appeals decisions on trademarks, designs and copyright, publishing of which is planned within the EUGIPP project. The compilation will include important decisions of the European Court of Justice (ECJ), General Court and EUIPO Board of Appeal and Common Courts of Georgia.
Forum is aimed at approximation of judicial practice and administrative/legislative procedures related to the intellectual property rights enforcement in Georgia with the EU standards, as well as exchange of information with Georgian judges on approaches existing in EU courts practice, which is achieved through sharing of knowledge and information between members of the Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and Georgian judges.
Forum lasted for 3 days and was attended by representatives of Sakpatenti, European Union, Ministry of Finance, Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, private sector and judges.
