New Design Examination Guidelines are Developed - Training Programme on Examination of National and International Design Applications was Organized by Sakpatenti

Within the EU Georgia Intellectual
Property Project (EUGIPP), a training programme on examination of
national and international design applications was organized for design examiners, right holders and users.
New examination guidelines for designs were introduced and a detailed
information on its’ practical use was delivered to the participants of the
meeting.
Drafting and
practical implementation of the new guidelines on examination of national and
international design applications is aimed to ensure consistency of the
decisions taken by Sakpatenti and development of uniform practice of
examination of applications. The training, which was attended by examiners of
Sakpatenti Department of Trademarks,
Geographical Indications and Design, staff members of the International Relations and Legal
Departments, patent attorneys, holders and users of intellectual property
rights as well as other interested bodies from the public was held in the
hybrid mode. Georgian and foreign experts working on the guidelines have guided
participants through the workshop, contributed to clarify the main issues
related to the registration of designs in Sakpatenti and have presented an
overview of the appeals and opposition procedure at the Sakpatenti Chamber of
Appeals.
The guidelines
on design examination is an significant outcome of the EUGIPP Project, which
will facilitate enhancement of the administrative framework for protecting
intellectual property rights in Georgia and improvement of the overall quality
of IPR administration.
The EU-Georgia
Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) is a EU-funded international cooperation
project launched on January 1, 2020, which is implemented by the European Union
Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The project main beneficiary is the
National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia - Sakpatenti. EUGIPP is a
three-year project, with the budget of 1.2 million Euros, aimed to support the
intellectual property system in Georgia.
