Cooperation between CLDP and Sakpatenti Continues to Strengthen the Intellectual Property System

A meeting between the representatives of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Sakpatenti management took place at the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia. During the meeting the CLDP representatives highlighted the fruitful cooperation and partnership with Sakpatenti over the years as well as the achieved results.
The parties discussed current and future joint projects within cooperation between Sakpatenti and CLDP, which are implemented dynamically despite the pandemic and are aimed at raising awareness of various target groups in the intellectual property field. Every year, Sakpatenti holds training sessions for judges, journalists, lawyers and students, also organizes study visits of Georgian examiners to the USA for their capacity building as well as organizes visits of the American experts to Georgia in order to share experience with the Georgian colleagues. At the meeting, the parties agreed to organize the annual international conference “Georgia Against Counterfeiting” with the CLDP support in 2022, as well as to implement various educational projects.
The CLDP is the technical assistance arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of the General Counsel, which provides technical assistance in the commercial law sphere to the governments and private sectors of transitional countries in support of their economic development goals. As part of the U.S. Government’s technical assistance to Georgia, CLDP has been tasked with leading a multi-year project that builds the capacity of public sector institutions and private sector stakeholders to protect and enforce intellectual property rights (IPR), including legal capacity building annual program for judges.
