February 18, 2022
Anticipated amendments to the Law “On Copyright and Related Rights” were discussed at the meeting held within the “ReforMeter” project. “ReforMeter” is a project of the ISET Policy Institute, supported by the USAID Economic Governance Program, which is aimed at successful implementation of the electronic commerce reform in Georgia.
The meeting held on February 17, 2022, is an exemplary case of a dialogue between the public service and the private sector, which will facilitate the progress of selected economic reforms, quality analysis and fruitful dialogue between stakeholders. The meeting was attended by representatives of USAID, ISET Policy Institute, Sakpatenti, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and members of the Parliament of Georgia. The participants shared their vision regarding the electronic commerce reform and its different components, considered challenges in the field of electronic commerce, the draft law on electronic commerce, as well as amendments to be made to the Law on Protection of Consumers Rights and On Copyright and Related Rights, as closely related regulations.
The draft amendments to the Law of Georgia “On Copyright and Related Rights”, prepared within the EU-funded project EUGIPP, stipulate formation of the system of Internet Service Providers liability, which ensures introducing an effective mechanism of rights enforcement on the Internet by private legal means for copyright holders. The discussion of this draft law with the private sector is planned in the near future.
