Within the Georgia-UK Strategic Partnership and Cooperation, Intellectual Property Protection Issues were Discussed on the Committee on Trade Matters

Within the “Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Georgia”, signed on October 21, 2019, the first meeting of the Committee on Trade Matters took place. Ms. Manana Pruidze, Acting Chairperson of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, participated in the work of the Committee meeting, held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development on February 24, 2022.
During the meeting, along with other issues, the parties discussed issues of legal protection of intellectual property stipulated in the “Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Georgia”. They also outlined future plans of activity of the Georgia-UK Geographical Indications Sub-Committees regarding mutual protection of geographical indications.
The delegation of Georgia was headed by Mr. Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the delegation of the United Kingdom - by Mr. Nick Clements, Deputy Head, Bilateral Trade Relations and International Trade Department of Europe, Near East and Central Asia.
The Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Forum in Trade configuration shall supervise and monitor the application and implemenation of Trade and Trade-related Matters in the Agreement and at the same time shall review the functioning of the Agreement in the light of its objectives. The Forum shall examine any major issue arising within the framework of this Agreement as well as any other bilateral or international issues of mutual interest.
