A Discussion was Held to Share Information on Trademarks

A virtual round table on online counterfeiting issues was held with the initiative of the Anticounterfeiting Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and with co-organization of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti. A traditional event aimed to support protection of rights of trademark holders facilitates sharing relevant information on trademarks among professionals of this field, which ensures customer protection and introduction of principles of fair commercial activity.
The discussion on intellectual property policy was opened by Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, and Ms. Valentina Salmoiraghi, INTA Anticounterfeiting Senior Advisor. INTA international experts, Sakpatenti staff members, representatives of the state and private sectors, including the Anti-Piracy Center of Georgia, the National Communications Commission and online market platforms addressed practical problems related to online commerce of counterfeit goods and mechanisms of struggle against them. The participants of the roundtable discussed how to tackle the problem of online counterfeiting based on international practice, how online platforms and right holders can cooperate, what kind of mechanisms and anti-counterfeiting policy should online platforms have. In particular, they considered experience of “Aliexpress” and its approved methods for revealing counterfeit goods on the platform and actions carried out upon receiving information on counterfeit goods, as well as methods of overcoming online counterfeiting by the owner company of the well-known brand in the fashion industry, FENDI.
The global association of trademark holders INTA unites 6500 organizations from 185 countries and 34 350 professionals working in the trademark field. The activity of the union is aimed to support the development of the intellectual property system, namely, in the direction of trademarks. INTA members are trademark right holder corporations, as well as small and medium entrepreneurs, law firms and non-governmental organizations. Its members also include state agencies and representatives of the scientific circles.
