Georgian authorities are familiarizing with enforcement practices and draft proposals for legal amendments related to intellectual property rights

Representatives of Georgian Enforcement Authorities, of National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia-Sakpatenti and Mr. Kenneth Wright, IP enforcement expert involved in the EUGIPP, participated in the workshop conducted within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP).
The objective of the workshop is introduction to the international practice related to intellectual property rights enforcement and discussion on proposals for legal amendments drafted on its basis. In particular, the participants will discuss IP related border measures, practices and legal amendments in the field of administrative and criminal enforcement, civil enforcement as well as online enforcement of IP rights. The planned legal amendments are intended to refine and develop the intellectual property rights enforcement system in Georgia and to approximate the current legislation of Georgia to the EU legislation.
The opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Nino Chikovani, Deputy Chairperson of Sakpatenti, Ms. Ketevan Khutsishvili, Programme Manager, Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, and Mr. Martin Marianov, EUGIPP Project Leader.
The event is a part of EUGIPP work plan 2022. It is held in the format of a workshop in Kakheti region, in the hybrid mode, and will continue for 2 days. The workshop is also aimed to strengthen the relations between Sakpatenti, the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Georgian National Communications Commission.
EUGIPP is a EU funded international cooperation project, which was launched on January 1, 2020, and is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The main beneficiary of the Project is the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti. The project will continue for three years, its budget is 1.2 million EUR and it is aimed to support the intellectual property system in Georgia.
