Sakpatenti Celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day together with the GTU Students

An event dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day took place at Sakpatenti as students of Faculty of Law of the Georgian Technical University (GTU) were hosted and handed over in an award ceremony the certificates of successful passing of the 20-hour course “On Intellectual Property”.
Before the award ceremony, the students had an opportunity to familiarize with the specificity of work of the intellectual property office in Georgia, to meet specialists of this area, patent attorneys, representatives of partner organizations of Sakpatenti as well as other public institutions, in particular, representatives of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) management.
“One of our main tasks it to give an opportunity to young people to gain a better understanding how the tools of the intellectual property system, namely, trademarks, design rights, copyright, patents, plant variety rights, geographical indications can assist them in advancing their ambitions on their way to a better future”, - Ms. Nino Chikovani, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, noted in her address.
At the event, Mr. Erekle Astakhishvili, Deputy Director, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Mr. Iuri Sadoev, Deputy Chairman, Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency, Mr. Zurab Gasitashvili, Deputy Rector for Science, Georgian Technical University, Mr. Tamaz Shilakadze, Chairman, Society of Inventors and Rationalizators of Georgia, and Mr. Giorgi Taktakishvili, Chairman, Association of Patent Attorneys of Georgia, also addressed the students.
The World Intellectual Property Day 2022 recognizes the huge potential of young people to find innovative and better solutions that support the transition to a sustainable future. This year the theme of World Intellectual Property Day is “IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future”, as attention across the globe is focused on youth-led innovation and creativity. This date is related to the entry into force of the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO Convention) in 1970. On this day, everyone is offered an opportunity to consider how intellectual property contributes to the progress of music, arts and technological innovation that helps toshape the contemporary world.
