Pupils of Gori Public School №8 Won in the Competition of Infographics Created on the Intellectual Property Theme

A competition “Be Innovative for a Better Future” was held within the week of activities dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day. One of the main conditions of the competition, which was fulfilled best of all by a team made up of pupils from Gori Public School №8, was to create an infographic with the content related to the World Intellectual Property Day theme. The ceremony of revealing and awarding the winner took place at Courtyard Marriott hotel on April 27.
Before the final part of the event, the pupils, their mentors, teachers and school directors were addressed by representatives of various offices engaged in the Project, in particular, Ms. Nino Chikovani, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, Ms. Ketevan Khutsishvili, Programme Manager of the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Mr. Martin Marianov, EU Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) Leader, Mr. Kakhaber Eradze, Deputy Director of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, Ms. Mariam Chikobava, Deputy Head of Preschool and General Education Department, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, and Mr. Avtandil Kasradze, Chairman of Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency. The participants became acquainted with the Project achievements and future plans, including information on new e-learning courses of Sakpatenti Training Center.
“The World Intellectual Property Day theme of this year: “IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future” reflected clearly how important it is to support the innovative, energetic and creative young generation. Similar projects will help the public to realize how intellectual property rights can support the youth of tomorrow to create a better future”, - Ms. Nino Chikovani, Acting Chairperson of Sakpatenti, noted.
The event was organized within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP), which is implemented jointly by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. One of the components of the Project - “Creativity and IP in Georgian Schools” is aims support of integration of intellectual property into the basic education system, in order to stimulate creativity in pupils. 4 schools throughout Georgia are involved in the Project (Gori №8, Gori №12, Tbilisi №122, Tbilisi №133 Public Schools), teachers are trained in intellectual property teaching methodology since 2020.
The infographics competition was also organized for pupils of the selected schools and teams of the 5th-9th-grade pupils of the public schools participated in it. The competition was held in the Georgian language, with the administration of Sakpatenti Training Center. The works of the teams were evaluated according to the pre-determined criteria and the winners were revealed by a working group of Sakpatenti staff members and an education expert.
At the preparatory stage of the competition, the working group members and the education expert delivered special online training for the coordinator teachers involved in the competition, where the calendar of the competition, procedures of making up a team, practical strategies of creating thematic infographics, principles of evaluation of infographics and the pre-determined criteria were introduced to the teachers. At the next stage, the teachers coordinated coherent implementation of the competition stages by the participating team, completion of the teams’ works within the deadline and ensured timely delivery of the competition works to Sakpatenti Training Center.
