Sakpatenti Continues Working on Introducing IP Pre-Diagnostic Services - the Office Staff are Attending the Follow-up Training

IP rights protection and commercialization, ways of identifying intangible assets are the main topics discussed at the follow-up training course delivered for Sakpatenti staff. Today, on June 30, 2022, a training activity was launched within the EU Georgia Intellectual Property (EUGIPP) Project, which is aimed to train Sakpatenti officials on performing IP pre-diagnostic services for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. The training is delivered by international IP expert Ms. Alison Orr.
The event held at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel was opened by Mr. Martin Marianov, EUGIPP Project Leader, and Mr. Merab Kutsia, the Project Component Leader, Head of the Department of Inventions and New Varieties and Breeds of Sakpatenti. In the welcoming address the Project Leader highlighted the fact that the objective of one of the main components of EUGIPP is to stimulate economic development through promotion of innovations, whereas the protection of intellectual property is the crucial factor for implementing the above-mentioned. Hence, one of the tools to achieve the objective is carry out specific activities for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs), such as rendering IP pre-diagnostic services for them.
On Behalf of Sakpatenti, Mr. Merab Kutsia expressed gratitude to the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the EUGIPP Leader and team for fruitful cooperation and noted that introducing a new service in the intellectual property field is one of the priorities for Sakpatenti as an intellectual property office focusing on services.
The current training activity covers work on documentation, templates and tools presented by foreign experts, including analysis of the materials learned at the training, recommended manuals and practical reference documents, which will train Sakpatenti examiners to advise small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.
EUGIPP is the EU funded international cooperation project, which is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) from January 1, 2020. The project main beneficiary is the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. EUGIPP is a three-year project, with the budget of 1.2 million EUR, and it aims to support the intellectual property system in Georgia.
