Mr. Daren Tang, WIPO Director General, noted in his report delivered during the opening of the 63rd Assemblies that despite the extremely challenging global situation, work of building the future of the global IP ecosystem must not stop. “We as the global IP community must continue being fully committed to transforming IP from a technical vertical of interest only to specialists, into a powerful catalyst for jobs, investments and development that supports innovators and creators everywhere”, – he noted.
On the day of opening the Assemblies, Ms. Nino Chikovani on behalf of Georgia addressed WIPO Director General Mr. Daren Tang and representatives of WIPO member states: “The last two years were a real challenge for the whole world, against the background of the global economic crisis everything was reflected in the field of intellectual property. Our Office was no exception either, however, with the support of the international partners, we succeeded in prompt optimization of all processes and retaining the high level of the service, implemented by Sakpatenti over the last 30 years for Georgian and foreign applicants. Digitalization of the databases and full involvement of the Office in various online tools of WIPO, assisted us in easy adaptation to online and hybrid working environment. I would like to express gratitude to WIPO for giving us an opportunity of uninterrupted continuation of our everyday activity and effective adjustment of the working environment to the existing challenges”.
Within the Assemblies, the meeting of the delegation of Georgia is planned with WIPO Director General, other senior managers of the Organization, as well as representatives of Intellectual Property Offices of various countries, to consider the introducing of IP educational programs in Georgia and support of the geographical indications system.
