Mr. Daren Tang Visited Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA)

Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is visiting Georgia for the first time. He will open the International Conference “The Role of IP Offices in the National Innovation Ecosystem”, dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”.
Within the visit, Director General of WIPO Mr. Daren Tang visited Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA), where he met with its Chairman Mr. Avtandil Kasradze and familiarized with the GITA activity.
The Agency (GITA) is involved in commercialization of private and public sectors knowledge, innovation and research results and promotion of innovative entrepreneurship, it cooperates closely with Sakpatenti in implementation of joint projects. Sakpatenti examiners deliver consultations for interested persons, assess patentability of projects, offer training for startups in the field of protection of inventions and actively participate in the events organized by the Agency. For innovation activity it is important to find new ways of reaching various groups, with the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and women, who are often on the margins of the IP ecosystem.
During his visit to GITA, Mr. Daren Tang also held a meeting with startupers and discussed with them the importance of intellectual property in innovative activity.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, which unites 193 member states. Georgia has been a member of WIPO since 1991.
