November 03, 2022
The short-term training program intended for school teachers was completed at Sakpatenti Training Center. In the current year, 108 teachers from 28 schools passed the distance course on “Intellectual Property Teaching Methodology” within the program. The activity was organized by Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The training program, along with teaching basics of intellectual property, also included practical exercises using special training materials translated into the Georgian language. To achieve maximum effectiveness of teaching, the teachers were provided with the training package in the Georgian language. The package consists of the guide, lesson plans, books, booklets, board games and other auxiliary resources.
The training program is based on the content of the EUIPO’s teacher training package “Basics of Intellectual Property”. By means of the special training materials, the teachers will be able to offer practical, funny and simple exercises to pupils. Teaching IP in this manner is introduced in the European Union, together with development of the creative skills, it deepens the knowledge of the youth in the direction of intellectual property from the school age.
Initially, Sakpatenti Training Center delivered the pilot version of above-mentioned training program in 2021. Last year, 12 teachers from public schools of Tbilisi, Rustavi and Gori were selected to participate in the project. In total, 120 teachers were trained throughout Georgia, who will share the knowledge with up to 2000 pupils.
The training activity was implemented within “Creativity and Intellectual Property in Georgian Schools”, one of the components of the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP). The component is aimed to support integration of intellectual property teaching into the basic education system of Georgia.
EUGIPP is the EU funded international cooperation project, which is ongoing from January 1, 2020. Its main beneficiary is the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. The project is being implemented by the EUIPO. The three-year project is directed at supporting development of the intellectual property system in Georgia.
