To share practice of European courts
in the field of intellectual property protection, a two-day seminar is held in
Borjomi with the participation of European and Georgian judges. Mr. Soso
Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia –
Sakpatenti, is attending the event in Hotel Crown Plaza.
In the seminar, organized by
Sakpatenti and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), 11
judges are participating from Georgia. Reférendaires and judges of the General Court of the
European Union (GCEU), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the
Commercial Court of Liege (Belgium) and members of the EUIPO’s Boards of Appeal
(BOA) will share best practices with the Georgian judges.
The
agenda of the seminar includes presentations on intellectual property related cases in the European
Union, discussions around court
decisions and consideration of high-profile cases in this direction. Judges from the Supreme
Court of Georgia, Tbilisi Court of Appeals and Tbilisi City Court, as well as
Kutaisi City Court are participating in the discussion.
On the first day of the
event, on November 11, 2022, the presentation of a compilation of court
decisions on intellectual property cases took place. The work, which was
translated into the Georgian language by the Georgian Bar Association, is
compiled on the basis of decisions taken by CJEU, GCEU and EUIPO
BOA.
The event is held in the framework of
the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP), which is ongoing from
January 2020. The project is jointly implemented by EUIPO and Sakpatenti. It is
aimed to support the intellectual property system in Georgia, to approximate
the legislation and practices of Georgia and the European Union.
