Chairman of Sakpatenti Awarded the Winning Team of Competition “Leonardo da Vinci”

The annual Competition “Leonardo da Vinci”, aimed to popularize science, to enhance interest in innovations and technology, is completed. The competition serves to stimulate the development of creative thinking, research and practical skills among pupils. The event is organized by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. From the foundation of the competition, Sakpatenti is its active supporter. A representative of the IP Centre is a constant member of the Competition Commission, assessing the projects submitted by young inventors according to the patentability criteria: novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. In the process of granting a patent for any invention, Sakpatenti is guided exactly by these criteria established by the legislation of Georgia.
The Grand Prix of the competition in 2022 was awarded to the project “Smart Consultant”, which satisfied best of all the criteria defined by Sakpatenti. The members of the project team are: Mariam Ghurchumelia, 11th-grade pupil of Guivi Zaldastanishvili American Academy, Ana Dimitriadi, 9th-grade pupil of Gori Public School №. 4, and Luka Tsotsoria, 9th-grade pupil of Martvili Private School “Skhivi”. The invention represents an automatic product weighing device which has an application for entering information about the desired weight and sum. The device makes convenient for consumers to trade in products that require weighing and by pressing a single button performs a long and uncomfortable process in a clean manner and in less time. The mentors of the young inventors during the competition were Mr. Tolia Kilasonia, STEM direction trainer of the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, and Ms. Marekh Mazanashvili, Specialist of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Gori Teaching University. Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Mr. Soso Giorgadze awarded presents to the team members.
The winners of the first, second and third positions of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Competition 2022 became teams of pupils from Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi public and private schools. The winners were handed over certificates by Ms. Nunu Mickevich, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti. The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti will continue to support the competition in future as well.
