Mr. Soso Giorgadze Met with Advisor to the President of the USA
February 07, 2023

Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, met with Ms. Kathi Vidal, Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), who at the same time is the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property of the USA and the IP advisor to the President of the USA. The meeting took place at the USPTO head office in Alexandria (Virginia, USA).
During the bilateral meeting, Mr. Soso Giorgadze and Ms. Kathi Vidal discussed issues of deepening of cooperation between the Patent Offices of Georgia and the USA. The conversation touched upon promotion and development of innovations and inventions. It was noted that against the background of development of technologies in the modern world, cooperation in the field of intellectual property will assist Georgia not only in the promotion of patent activity, but also in the strengthening of the inventions and innovations field. The special focus was on the encouragement and support of women inventors. At the meeting the Chairman of Sakpatenti noted that earlier, familiarization of the U.S. practice and sharing experience for the capacity building of Georgian examiners played a significant role in the improvement of examination activity at Sakpatenti. Continuation of such practice would again be highly beneficial for protection of intellectual property in Georgia.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is the federal agency of the U.S. government for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks. It also promotes the stronger and more effective IP protection around the world.
The visit of Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, will continue until February 11. Within the visit, the Head of the IP Office will participate in the Administration Program organized by the USPTO and will also hold a meeting in Washington with Mr. Steve Gardner, Chief Counsel for the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
