Mediation of Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Disputes

On March 23, 2023, 15:00, a Webinar
on Mediation of Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Disputes will
be held, co-organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
Arbitration and Mediation Center and Sakpatenti. The event is organized within
the Memorandum of Understanding signed between WIPO and LEPL National
Intellectual Property Center “Sakpatenti”. The webinar will be delivered by
leading specialists from WIPO, who will share with the participants WIPO
practice and experience in the direction on settlement of disputes through
mediation.
At the webinar, the work practice of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center will be shared and WIPO mediation rules and principles will be discussed, which are applied to achieve efficiency in the mediation process.
In addition, attention will be focused on mechanisms of enforcement of settlement agreements and the role of different actors in mediation. The Chairperson of the Mediators Association of Georgia will deliver a presentation on principles of the mediation process and enforcement of settlement agreements in Georgia. Taking into consideration the international best practice shared by WIPO experts, during the meeting perspectives of introducing mediation at the Chamber of Appeals functioning at Sakpatenti will also be discussed.
The
event is aimed to share information on alternative mechanisms of intellectual
property dispute resolution and to discuss introducing of mediation in this
sphere in Georgia.
It is noteworthy that according to the statistical data of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, 70% of WIPO mediation cases are concluded in a settlement. The importance of this mechanism is also highlighted by the fact that services of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center are used regularly by international corporations, SMEs, startups, as well as R&D centers, universities, artists, inventors and producers from around the world.
