Mr. Soso Giorgadze Met with Commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration

Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, within the 64th session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), met with Mr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the delegation of the People’s Republic of China.

At the meeting, the parties spoke about deepening cooperation between the two countries in the direction of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

It was noted at the meeting that fruitful cooperation in this sphere will contribute to the promotion of innovations, transfer and dissemination of technologies, which in turn will be reflected positively on the growth of foreign investments. Mr. Soso Giorgadze expressed hope that deepening of cooperation in the IP field will make a significant contribution to the trade relations between China and Georgia. 

During the meeting it was also noted that it is important to deepen cooperation in order to develop and introduce mechanisms of effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. 

Mr. Soso Giorgadze highlighted the importance of protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin, which is one of the issues of the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China. The parties noted that cooperation in the direction of protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin is a priority.
