July 27, 2023
On July 27, the Trans-Caspian Intellectual Property Forum was opened in Batumi, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti” and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The CLDP/Sakpatenti joint event was opened by Mr. Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti. Mr. Skip Mark, Senior Counsel of CLDP, addressed the forum participants with opening remarks.
The participants of the forum are representatives of the IP Offices and Customs Departments of Armenia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The delegates will discuss regional challenges and progress for IPR protection and enforcement, also resources and coordination necessary to take advantage of available tools and implement newly proposed tools.
Against the background of technological achievements in the modern world, from day to day it becomes increasingly interesting to create and develop means of protection of digital intellectual property rights. To work on this issue the forum participants will identify target groups and stakeholders, as well as effective platforms for their engagement.
The forum is aimed to increase regional connectivity between the countries of the South Caucasus, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, which encourages further investment in the region and creates additional linkages through common programs between all countries of the Trans-Caspian region. Within the forum the assembled delegates will have an opportunity to engage in inclusive and direct dialogue with their counterparts from the Trans-Caspian region on best practices. Thus, the forum will contribute to the progress of predictable, harmonized, and efficient IPR protection and enforcement across the region. It is noteworthy that Sakpatenti is being formed as one of the leaders in the region in the field of intellectual property protection, who together with the U.S. and European partners is sharing the experience of Georgia and international practice with the countries of the region.
