The U.S. Department of State Assesses Positively the Activity of Sakpatenti

The U.S. Department of State released the 2023 Investment Climate Statements (ICS), in which it is said that the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) provides legal protection for intellectual property objects in Georgia. The Department of State notes in its report that relevant agencies of the United States cooperate actively with Sakpatenti on IPR-related issues and work jointly in this direction to raise public awareness. According to the report, the legislation of Georgia in the field of protection of intellectual property rights is in compliance with the international standards, at the same time, the role of Sakpatenti is assessed positively in the process of working on further improving domestic legislation and its harmonization with international standards.
The U.S. Department of State also states that situation in terms of enforcement of intellectual property rights is improving in Georgia. As regards the problems, the U.S. government Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) will continue to support Sakpatenti and other government entities to overcome the current challenges effectively.
